Info: Oxandrolone originated in the 1960s and was marketed by G.D. Searle & co under the name Anavar. The compound was said to have many therapeutic benefits but ceased to exist in 1989. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the FDA put tremendous pressure on the steroid market and Searle simply dropped the line. By the mid-1990s, almost all of Oxandrolone disappeared from the market until 1995, when the steroid reappeared via Bio-Technology General CORP (BTG) under the brand name Oxandrin. With the new brand and ownership and a complete monopoly on the drug, BTG dramatically increased the price, making it one of the most expensive anabolic steroids to ever exist. In modern times, the price has come down in part due to generic manufacturing, but Oxandrolone still remains one of the most expensive steroids you will ever find.

Oxandrolone is an anabolic androgenic steroid derived from dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Specifically, Oxandrolone is the DHT hormone with the addition of an oxygen atom in place of the carbon-2 in the A-ring. This simple alternation greatly increases the anabolic power of the hormone and prevents its metabolic degradation. The hormone is then further altered at the 17th carbon position by the addition of a methyl group. This allows Oxandrolone to be ingested orally without being destroyed by the liver and officially classifies it as a C17-alpha (C17-aa) alkylated anabolic steroid.
